Following similar moves by the U.S. Congress and Senate, and the E.U. Parliament, Canadian Parliament is near official recongition of the Srebrenica Genocide and adoption of July the 11th as the "Srebrenica Remembrance Day." The Congress of North American Bosniaks and the Institute for the Research of Genocide have launched the Canadian national campaign for adoption of Srebrenica Genocide Resolution. Their effort has been well received with strong support of Members of Parliament, particularly MPs Brian Masse, Rob Oliphant, and Borys Wrzesnewskyj.

"By seeking to eliminate a part of the Bosnian Muslims, the Bosnian Serb forces committed genocide. They targeted for extinction the 40,000 Bosnian Muslims living in Srebrenica, a group which was emblematic of the Bosnian Muslims in general.... The Appeals Chamber states unequivocally that the law condemns, in appropriate terms, the deep and lasting injury inflicted, and calls the massacre at Srebrenica by its proper name: genocide. Those responsible will bear this stigma, and it will serve as a warning to those who may in future contemplate the commission of such a heinous act." - Presiding ICTY Judge Theodor Meron [Polish-American Jew]
"We remember this terrible crime because we dare not forget, because we must pay tribute to the innocent lives, many of them children, snuffed out in what must be called genocidal madness." - President Bill Clinton told thousands of victims' relatives at the Srebrenica Genocide Memorial in Potocari.
The European Parliament resolution called the Srebrenica Genocide "the biggest war crime in Europe since the end of WWII." The assembly called it "a symbol of the international community’s impotence to intervene and protect civilians."
“The tragedy of Srebrenica will forever haunt the history of the United Nations” - Kofi Annan (Seventh secretary-general of the United Nations, 2001 Nobel Peace Prize.)
“Remembrance reminds us of our past failures and motivates us to prevent future atrocities ... On behalf of the genocide prevention group, I express our sympathies to the Bosnian community and reaffirm our commitment to end violence against humanity.” MP Paul Dewar, Chair of the Genocide Prevention Group
